In October 2025, with coordination from Trees Forever, 30 volunteers gathered at Drake Park, in the southeast corner of the Drake University neighborhood, to plant 36 new trees. When these trees bear, the public is welcome and encouraged to pick and enjoy the fruits. This project is intended as the first of many more around the city, as Des Moines begins a new era of embracing and expanding opportunities for urban agriculture and bolstering food security for all.
